How The Zero Weeks Of Paid Maternity Leave In The U.S. Compares Globally

i should move to canada and get a job before i give birth then. we greedy bitches hurr.

austria has a ridiculously good paid PATERNITY leave.
their paid maternity leave - 16 weeks 100%
their paid paternity leave - between 1 and 3 years depending on chosen payment (percentage of last income for one year; ca. €436/month for three years)
my sister-in-law is currently working her ass off to boost her income prior to her and my brother having a baby since the pay will be based off that.

holy shit that’s awesome. i don’t understand why we don’t have any here. shit if you work for a small business (say if i still worked at the groom shop with 5 other people), you aren’t even entitled to 12 weeks UNPAID because federal law doesn’t cover businesses that employ less than 50 people.
this is supposedly a family-friendly country that cares so much about fetuses that they want to ban abortion and birth control………….. but nobody gives a shit about the women giving birth to them. nobody wants to go back to work right after a baby is born but shit nobody wants to go 3 months without getting paid.
i lol at pakistan having 12 paid weeks and we call them uncivilized
also TECHNICALLY i am not even eligible for UNPAID FREAKING MATERNITY LEAVE because you have to have worked at your job for 12 months and worked at least 1250 hours.

wordsandlyrics:

“If you’ve ever tried to fight tears on the bus ride home, and failed. If you’ve ever lied about why your eyes were glazed over, and you were believed. This one’s for you. If you’ve ever stopped listening to your favorite band because he liked them too. If you’ve ever hated a girl you didn’t know because he picked her over you. This one’s for you. If you’ve ever wished you were weak enough to cry in public. If you’ve ever constantly hid behind laughter and smiles. This one’s for you. If you’ve ever bit your lip to stop it from quivering. If you’ve ever walked with your eyes planted on the ground. This one’s for you. If you’ve ever stared into the darkness before sleep, trying to avoid the ‘what’s if’s’ and ‘if only’s’. If you’ve ever listened to totally different music, but ended up thinking about him anyway. This one’s for you. The girl who doesn’t get the guy. The girl who still lives her life to the fullest she can. The girl who gets up every day and doesn’t give up. This one’s for you, because it takes so much to be that strong.”

no it doesn’t. that’s called being a normal person with feelings, although the “girl” described here seems to be just a bit fucking dramatic. anyone who thinks like this needs to get over themselves. you do not deserve a gold star or a fucking medal for ~having the strength to get through your oh so tough life where all the boys pick other girls~. cry me a fucking river. why the fuck are you crying THAT MUCH over some dude? that girl isn’t strong at all. she’s a pathetic blob of jelly who can’t get through life without someone to obsess over. and that kind of girl can’t even be happy when there IS a guy who “picks her” because then there’s no drama and no reason to be sad and nothing to cry over.

in short: that “girl” needs to get the fuck over herself and find some goddamn self-respect.

FIRSTS:

Is this your first pregnancy?: yep.
How did you find out you were pregnant? i had one last test under my bathroom sink (i keep them there because i’m paranoid) that was about to expire, so i peed on it just to get rid of it and lo and behold that sucker popped up with 2 lines.
What kind of pregnancy test did you take?: the first one was first response, and then i ran out and got 3 dollar tree tests because i didn’t have any more and i needed more proof lol.
How many?: 4 total.
What were your first symptoms?: extreme fatigue, mostly. a bit of cramping but nothing unusual.
Who did you tell first?: my friend amanda.
Who was with you when you found out?: nobody.
Was baby planned?: absolutely not.
When was baby conceived?: best guess is april 27th.
How far were you when you found out?: 4 weeks and 3 days.

My baby:

Will baby have any siblings?: at some point.
Have you felt baby move?: too small. tummy gremlin is like… less than an inch long.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Do/Did you have morning sickness?: a little bit. no actual throwing up but general nausea and for some reason smelling hot buttery things makes me really queasy.
Do/Did you have any cravings?: not anything in particular yet. but lately whenever people mention some kind of food, i HAVE to have that thing.
Do/Did you have any mood swings?: god yes.
Are you a high risk pregnancy?: not likely.
Any complications?: none so far.

Formula or breastfeeding?: haven’t decided.

Are you excited?: a little bit more every day.
Who will help with baby after their born?: my fiance and my parents definitely, possibly his parents.

What are some of your favorite things about being pregnant?: people buy me food and say HERE FEED YOUR BABY!!! and i will never refuse that.

What are some of the worst things about being pregnant?: being tired all the damn time and being nauseous but hungry at the same time.

What are some things you miss doing since being pregnant? having energy. and being able to ride rollercoasters.
Are you ready for baby?: i have 7 1/2 months to gear up.
How many kids do you want?: 2-3.
Do you talk to your baby?: not yet. i think it will be more real for me when i have a bump.
